The Problem with Voting Early (and often)
People who reside in Canada (I may even refer to them as Canadians) love to feel superior to Americans because in most cases we know who our head of state is within 6 hours of an election ending.
The Canadian electoral process is usually pretty prompt and despite some old fashioned vote buying (a pint of crown royal for an 'x' beside the candidate's name) is usually without any large scandals, or so we think.
It's nice to feel as though we wouldn't elect George Bush twice, but if we can't even run a
civic (Calgary) election without incident where does our electoral superiority come from?
I guess we did elect a few socialist governments once or twice.
Voting early should work because apparently people like voting by mail and by phone, but often times it's a detriment to the process.
Is anyone really surprised that Calgary, the city that wants to be America Jr., had problems with its mail-in ballots (Over 1,000 ballots all mailed to one p.o. box, half came back all filled out in a similar style)? They might as well have American style election problems.
