Always Sometimes Bet on Black

The company I worked for shipped me 19 bottles of wine this week as a 'gift'. I picked up the first shipment of three and handed over my last 38 dollars to do so. The NSLC doesn't like 'gifts' from wine companies and charges duty and all sorts of other fees, so I was trapped. The next day another 16 bottles arrived and they wanted to charge me 318 dollars so I could pick up my 'free' wine. I was broke, so I had to politely decline.

Thankfully I wasn't broke for long as my GST cheque arrived the next day. Of course this money burned a hole in my pocket and after groceries, jam spot rent, and various assorted other things, the money was all gone. I was, however, in luck.

I played a show with Art Department and Ceti Alpha on Wednesday at Reflections. I sucked, they were all good. They all had more than one person in their acts, I did not. This meant I received three free pitchers to myself. I also ended up getting paid twenty bucks.

On Friday I was lucky enough to be on the Stolen Minks guestlist for the North End Pub show. Paul bought me a soda, so I basically had all my needs covered.

Today I lucked out and Stephen Cooke got me into 'Benchwarmers' for free. This was a mixed blessing as the movie sucked shit. The company did not so it was all a draw.

Tonight I had planned to go see the Constantines as Paul's guest (plus one). It turns out he didn't have one, so I just decided to head back home. People offered to lend me money so I could buy a ticket, and I probably should have relented as I missed an awesome show, but I just can't borrow money right now when I'm not sure when I'm getting paid next. I know that seems like a copout, but when I borrow money I feel like such an idiot.

I'm owed about 1600 dollars from various jobs I have completed over the last six months, but I have no idea when I'm going to see it. Hopefully soon. One nice thought is that my Alberta student loan debt is under 300 dollars (down from over 1900 dollars at Christmastime).

Tonight when I got home I rolled pennies and listed cds on Ebay...you have to have a back-up plan.

I'm sure the Constantines and Blood Meridian were awesome, I made up for it by listening to Operation Ivy on repeat.
