Good Morning Halifax.
Greetings and ah, Salutations all, this is Jack of the Park Towers Press. Now some of you I've talked to on the phone, some of you may have heard from me indirectly, and there are even a handful of you who don't know who I am. In which case I'll quickly make clear, that somebody you know, suggested I get in touch with you.
Now the deal. (Sorry to go through this again for those of you who already know)
Park Towers is a bi-monthly (once every two) art's publication. It is entirely a submissions based magazine and publishes all kinds of artwork: paintings, drawings, and photos. Writing, like short stories, poetry, plays, essays, and comics. As well as many handmade inserts such as stencils, textiles, and silk screens; even music, audio word tracks, and video, which go on a mini CD that each magazine includes.
Park Towers has been around since Sept last year, and has done 4 issues to date. It's produced currently in Montreal, but originated in my small town of Stratford Ontario as way to keep local youth off the streets, and enable me to meet a woman. Submissions come from all across Canada, and the magazine is distributed as such, with copies in Toronto, Montreal, London, Winnipeg, Victoria, to name a few. Current issues, are 7 X 8.5 inches in dimensions, 80 pages long, with 4 colour pages, and sell for $5. And incidentally, the press makes no money. Ever. Believe you me. Never. We also run 250 copies of each issue, but the small size of the press allows us to produce a very detailed hand made product, which is truly a collaborative art piece into itself, and thus is hopeful not to be viewed disposable by it's audience, as most other magazines are.
THE HALIFAX ISSUE:
For issue 5, we the good people of Park Towers, have decided to do our first themed issue, which is to be the mighty Halifax issue. Since each issue is like a collaborative art show of any possible medium we can squeeze into a magazine; the only criteria for submitting to this issue is that the artist must have atleast a vague affiliation to the city of Halifax. Some things about issue 5 are known already, such as our covers have been silkscreened and designed by Halifax's YO RODEO! There will be an interview with "The Burdocks" and a compilation record featuring the music of "Contrived", "The Burdocks" (obviously), "Radar Fame", and "Yellow Jacket Avenger."
But we still need to fill this issue up with Halifax artwork, writing, and inserts, or any other features or idea's you might have that we ourselves cannot conceive at this point. So we need your work, help and suggestions in putting this issue together.
OUR PRESS REP IN HALIFAX is Laura Dawe, who lives at 2452 John st. and can be reached at 422-6154. If you have any questions you'd like to ask in person, see some copies of back issues, or drop off any inserts to be mailed; Laura is the girl to talk too. Oh and by the by, it may seem obvious that I should mention where we sell copies of the press in Halifax, but as far as I know; we're one: sold out, and two: we had some in two places but they both were shut down forever. A coincidence I assure you.
THE DEADLINE for submissions was something like two months ago. At which point I noticed I had no friends in Halifax and then cried about it for two months, then called Paul Hammond, and he gave me this list of people to ask. Thus please submit all work as soon as you can. JUNE 27th can be the technical deadline if you like.
So...
E-MAIL all work if you can,

JUNE 27th is the "deadline" but it's never too soon or too late.
