He prayed to God that sleep would visit him soon. It was a last resort after trying everything he could think of to fall asleep. Simply because it was a last resort does not mean that the prayer was insincere, far from it. He felt that praying for sleep was a bit of a trite request. Ashamed, he prayed anyway. He felt that maybe if he was earnest enough with the Lord, that God would grant him this one boon. He had seen movies, Kings did those sorts of things as did Odin in his Thor comics. Maybe calling it a boon was poorly thought out. He hoped that God would forgive his indiscretion and answer his one prayer.
James lay there. He could hear the bad thing happening down the hall. He hated the bad thing and tried desperately not to think of it, it would be over soon. He turned his face into the wall and waited for sleep to come, it didn't.
It was that night that James realized the bible was full of lies and his parents were full of shit.
