Nobody likes a wife beater

Mr. Brogan had also been charged with assaulting his wife and impaired driving, but those charges were tossed out at the start of the trial Wednesday due to lack of evidence.

Mr. Brogan said later Thursday he was happy with the verdict and would begin campaigning for re-election right away, even though a municipal election won't be held for three years. He said the charges against him led to his failed re-election bid last October.

"Nobody likes a wife beater," he said.

After that pronouncement Brogan said "and Nazis, I don't think anyone likes those guys either."
