Pine Tar Incident Part II
The phrase 'foreign substance' reminds me of the Cuban Assassain. How often did he pull a foreign object out of his bands (in the wrestling ring)?
My elementary school friends and I used to care about the original Pine Tar incident as if it was the only thing that mattered. It didn't matter that it happened in 1983, years before any of us cared about baseball, but we argued about it as if it only took place the day before.
George Brett was our maligned and misunderstood hero. We really didn't notice that he was, in fact, a cheater.

I have no idea what kind of message Halifax is trying to send with its proposed the Safe Streets Act. Oh wait yes I do, Don't Be Poor Assholes!
Obviously it's not as simple as that, but it seems like it's a case of treating a symptom rather than treating the cause.
Of course what would Halifax City Council be if Steve Streatch didn't weigh in on an issue like this :
"Coun. Steve Streatch (Eastern Shore-Musquodoboit Valley) said he didn't know why the city couldn't completely put an end to people asking for money to protect the residents.
He "doesn't like" panhandling and says others feel the same way.
"Maybe we need to get at the root of what's going on here," he said, noting he had an idea if the issue was money.
"I challenge somebody in this room to go over and round some of these folks up, some of them are sitting right over here," he said, pointing to the 10 activists in the public gallery.
"And say, 'Why don't you take this bag and go out and clean up some garbage and we'll pay you for that?' "
The police chief "signed off" on Safe Streets legislation, he said, so councillors shouldn't second-guess it, he said.
"If you don't get it, then I say keep your mouth shut." "
It's not safe streets that are a problem, it's the logic behind it. Streatch wants to put an end to panhandling, not by pressuring Provinicial and Federal governments for more funding for housing programs, but by outlawing panhandling. Streatch is getting tired of having to see that shit when he walks down Spring Garden Rd. Y'know?
He was bummed that someone suggested that Nova Scotia try to attract immigrants and he's bummed that he has to think about homelessness once, maybe twice, a day.
Streatch has listened to too much Ice Cube,

You're lucky that 'hey buddy' doesn't steal the tips from your tip jar at work and then ask you for a dollar the next day, Streatch. Not that that ever happened when I was working at certain classy Pita place.
Nova Scotia has one of the lowest minimum wages (6.50 for experienced employees, 6.05 for inexperienced employees) in Canada, it isn't set to be increased until the fall, of course people are desperate for money and they are going to turn to means other than call centres.
This legislation may put an end to crazed crackheads harassing you on the street, but that's doubtful. What it does is give people who want to see a homeless people off Spring Garden Rd and away from downtown business the ability to lock them up. It's going to hurt a lot of people who need far more than some paternalistic law to help them out.
I wish the city would put forth some legislation that cracks down on frosted hair.
